Christmas Trees
Growing Joy…
There are two types of Christmas trees available, each with its own unique benefits. Here are some of the most common types of Christmas trees we grow at Whispering Bear Farm:
- Eastern White Pine – This tree is known for its clustered blue-green needles and conical shape. It has good needle retention and is a popular choice for those who like a more traditional Christmas tree look. This tree has very little aroma after cutting so it may be desirable for those with sensitivities. Be careful with heavier ornaments on the branches with this species.
- Norway Spruce – This tree is native to Northern, Central and Eastern Europe. It is known for its dark green needles that can be up to 1 inch long. The needles rarely drop and have been known to stay on the tree for 10 years. The Christmas trees that are selected for Rockefeller center in New York City are often Norway Spruce.
Benefits of buying a live Christmas Tree:
- Live Christmas trees are biodegradable and can be easily recycled or turned into mulch after the holiday season, making them more environmentally friendly than artificial trees.
- Live trees provide oxygen and remove carbon dioxide from the air, contributing to cleaner air in your home.
- Choosing a live Christmas tree supports local agriculture and provides a sanctuary for birds and other wildlife while they are growing.
- The fresh scent of a live tree adds to the festive atmosphere of the holiday season.
- Live trees offer a unique and authentic holiday experience, with their natural beauty and variation adding character to your decorations.
